Melbourne, VIC, February 2021
I, like far too many women, found myself trapped in a loveless and ultimately soul-destroying marriage. It took me far too long to extricate myself from it, but I finally did, just over a year ago. My ex was overseas at the time, visiting family.
When we separated, he decided to stay on to give himself time to work out what he would do when he returned to Australia. When Covid-19 swept the world, he paid little heed to the government warnings to return home. He didn’t take the pandemic seriously and thought it would all blow over in a couple of months.
As utterly devastating as Covid has been, in some ways, it was a blessing in disguise for me. It allowed me and my children the space and time to transition to a new life. To create a beautiful new home together and for me to heal emotionally. It has been a very long time since I felt true happiness. So yeah, if I think about it – I have made a sacrifice.
I sacrificed my happiness – and that is something I will never do again.
